Bio: I have been fortunate to have extensive international travel experience and interaction with a variety of cultures. My education and work experience has provided me with the tools to succeed in the Nonprofit Sector and I hope to continue to grow and learn. I aim to obtain a position down the road in which I can continue to work with different cultures to enhance education, health, and quality of life for others regardless of socio-economic status.
Success Story: As a Phoenix native and daughter to a social worker and teacher, I have grown up loving nonprofit work both in Phoenix and all over the world. After attending Paradise Valley High School, (go Trojans!), I decided to study at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. Besides playing for the Women’s soccer team, it was during my college years that I came to love international travel through a study abroad program in Italy.
Upon completion of my BA, I took a position with Phoenix Children’s Hospital in the Psychiatry department as a Youth Counselor, where I have worked for over nine years in total. In addition to working with the inpatient psychiatric population I have been fortunate to develop several staff training programs related to staff-patient interaction as well as initial communication with medical students. My certification as a Senior-level instructor through the Crisis Prevention Institute has also allowed me to educate staff on nonviolent crisis intervention. PCH is proud to have recently been awarded as a Top Children’s Hospital by the Leapfrog group for the second consecutive year.
Over the past several years I have been an avid traveler around the world, both for pleasure and volunteerism with organizations such as the Human Development Fund in Bangkok, Thailand. I became a member of YNPN after obtaining a Masters of Nonprofit Studies at ASU in 2009. Currently I volunteer with an awesome organization called Young Life, Capernaum. Young Life Capernaum strives to reach teens and adolescents with physical and mental disabilities and introduce them to Jesus Christ. It is a forum of fun, acceptance, healing, and fellowship.
